What Happened?

Due to extraordinary geopolitical circumstances in West Asian countries, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has made the difficult decision to cancel Class XII Board Examinations scheduled between 16th March 2026 and 10th April 2026.

Exams conducted successfully up to 28th February 2026 remain valid. However, for the cancelled papers, CBSE has introduced a special Alternative Assessment Scheme to ensure students are not disadvantaged. This blog breaks down exactly how results will be calculated, what schools need to do, and what students can expect.

Who Is Affected?

This notification applies specifically to CBSE Class XII students residing in the following West Asian Countries:

CountryStatus
BahrainExams Cancelled (Post-28 Feb)
IranExams Cancelled (Post-28 Feb)
KuwaitExams Cancelled (Post-28 Feb)
OmanExams Cancelled (Post-28 Feb)
QatarExams Cancelled (Post-28 Feb)
Saudi ArabiaExams Cancelled (Post-28 Feb)
UAEExams Cancelled (Post-28 Feb)

How Will Your Results Be Calculated?

The assessment method depends on how many exams you managed to take before the cancellation. CBSE has categorized students into specific groups.

1. Students Who Appeared in ALL Registered Subjects

  • Status: You managed to write all your exams before the cancellation or at centers outside the affected region.
  • Result Declaration: Based purely on your actual performance in the Board examinations.
  • Action: No special action needed.

2. Students With Pending Exams (1 to 6 Subjects Left)

  • Status: You have some subjects where the exam was conducted, but others were cancelled.
  • Result Declaration: A hybrid model.
    • Conducted Exams: Actual Board Exam marks.
    • Cancelled Exams: Based on School Assessments (Internal Marks).
  • Practical/Internal Assessment (IA): No change. Marks already uploaded by schools remain valid.

3. Compartment Candidates (2025 or Earlier)

  • Status: You are appearing for only 1 subject to clear a backlog.
  • Scenario A: If the exam was conducted → Result based on performance.
  • Scenario B: If the exam was cancelled, → You will get an opportunity to appear in Supplementary Examinations in July 2026.

4. Students Who Changed Examination Centre

  • Status: You moved your exam center to India or another country outside the West Asian region.
  • Result Declaration: Based on your actual performance in the examinations at the new center.

The Mark Calculation Logic (For Pending Subjects)

For subjects where the Board exam was not conducted, schools will provide marks based on internal assessments. The method depends on the Theory Marks assigned to that subject.

Theory Marks Distribution Table

Subject TypeTheory MarksPractical/IA MarksTotal
Major Subjects (e.g., Math, Physics, English)80 or 7020 or 30100
Skill/Vocational (e.g., IT, Tourism)6040100
Special Subjects (e.g., Music, Yoga)50 or 3050 or 70100

❓ Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q1: Will my Practical/Internal Assessment marks change?

No. Practical and Internal Assessment (IA) is a year-long exercise. Schools have already uploaded these marks and will remain unchanged.

Q2: Can I apply for re-evaluation or a photocopy of my answer sheet?

Only for conducted exams. If your exam was actually held (before 28th Feb or at a different center), you can apply for a photocopy/verification. For subjects assessed via school marks, this facility is not applicable.

Q3: What if I am not satisfied with the school-assessed marks?

CBSE may consider providing a fresh opportunity (new exams) for dissatisfied students in subjects where exams were not conducted. However, this is subject to conditions being conducive (security/geopolitical situation) and feasibility. If you take this new exam, those marks will be final.

Q4: I am a Compartment candidate. What happens if my exam is cancelled?

You will be allowed to appear in Supplementary Examinations in July 2026. You can appear from any country where CBSE conducts these exams.

Q5: Can schools change the marks after uploading them?

No. CBSE has stated that “Data Once Uploaded Will Be Final.” Schools must be doubly sure before uploading. No requests for correction due to mistakes will be entertained.

Q6: How will CBSE ensure schools don’t give fake marks?

CBSE reserves the right to call records for verification. Schools must seal answer books of all assessments (Quarterly, Half-Yearly, Pre-Board) under the signature of the Principal and Vice Principal. If unfair practices are found, CBSE can cancel results and take action against the school.

Q7: What if I was absent for all exams conducted up to 28th Feb?

If you did not appear in any examination conducted by the Board till 28.03.2026, you will be marked “Absent” in those subjects, and the result will be declared per Examination Bye-Laws (likely resulting in a compartment or essential repeat).

Q8: When will the results be declared?

Results for West Asian countries will be declared along with the rest of the students globally.

Safety & Fairness Assurance

The CBSE emphasizes that this policy is designed to uphold fairness, reliability, validity, and transparency.

  • For Students: Your academic future is protected; you will not be disadvantaged due to circumstances beyond your control.
  • For Schools: You are trusted to provide unbiased data. Compliance is mandatory.
  • For Parents: The process is objective, using existing school performance data (Best of 3 or Pre-Board) to approximate true potential.

Conclusion

While the cancellation of Board Exams is unprecedented, CBSE’s Alternative Assessment Scheme ensures that Class XII students in West Asian countries can move forward with their higher education plans without delay. By leveraging internal school assessments and maintaining strict verification protocols, the Board aims to deliver results that are both timely and credible.
